State Representative Geraldo Alicea joined State Treasurer Steven Grossman’s Unclaimed Property Division today to announce that residents of the 6th Worcester district may have unclaimed property that is being held by the treasurer’s office.
Each year, the Commonwealth takes possession of unclaimed property which includes cash, forgotten savings and checking accounts, un-cashed checks, insurance policy proceeds, stocks, dividends and contents of abandoned safe deposit boxes. Most of these accounts are considered “abandoned” and are turned over to the Treasury after three years if there has been no activity on them.
“Currently, there is over 62 million dollars belonging to 34,000 residents in the Commonwealth. My hope is that together we can reach out to residents in the 6th Worcester district and help get them what is rightfully theirs,” said Representative Alicea.
According to the Unclaimed Property Division’s records, it may be holding property of yours valued at $500 or more.
Each State Representative has a list of their constituents who have unclaimed property. Please contact Geraldo Alicea’s office at 617-722-2637 to find out if your name was included on the list. In addition, you can file a claim directly with the Unclaimed Property Division at 1-800-344-MASS.
