Representative Geraldo Alicea is calling on his democratic opponent to stop misleading voters.
“In her latest mailing to voters, my opponent is claiming that I voted to allow the Governor to cut local aid. This simply isn’t true and I ask her to stop misleading voters,” stated Representative Geraldo Alicea.
“Perhaps she is unclear on how to read roll call records, but the fact is that I voted against giving the Governor the power to cut local aid. The Journal of the House clearly shows that on H 98 (2009) I voted against giving him the power to cut local aid. I was one of 22 votes against this bill,” said Alicea.
Powell’s campaign literature incorrectly cites “RC #09-001” which was actually an amendment that moved to insert, in line 20, after “year” the following language: “after the effective date of this act.” The actual local aid vote was H 98. Representative Alicea’s vote against this bill is public record.
“Powell is misleading voters by quoting a roll call on an amendment which failed 135-20. The only vote that day on local aid was H 98. In addition to voting against giving the Governor the power to cut local aid, I voted to increase local aid in both 2007 and 2008,” said Alicea.
“It is wrong to mislead voters and I ask that she end this campaign tactic. Our voters deserve much better from the candidates in this race,” said Alicea. “I am running a campaign focused on the issues and on my experience. I am meeting with voters across our communities to listen to their challenges and talk about my record. I have focused on making this district a better place to live and work. Rather than misleading voters, my opponent should run a positive campaign based on her background and experience.”
